Session #1: The revolutionary ideas of Karl Marx
Karl Marx’s ideas have enduring relevance today because they are essential for understanding why capitalism creates structural inequality. Houses are empty while people are homeless, millions go hungry while there’s more than enough food to the globe many times over. For those of us who want to win a society free of capitalist misery, Marx’s ideas are an indispensable guide to action. This session is about understanding how the system works, so we can fight to change it.

Session #2: How can we end capitalism?
Capitalism has got to go – but how? Is revolution possible today? What would that look like? And who could make it happen? And what would socialism look like?
Marx argued that revolution was both possible and necessary to win a socialist world. He identified the working class as the group with the power to make it happen.
This session is about understanding the Marxist idea of socialism, worker’s revolution and what a successful revolution would look like today.

Session #3: Socialism and women’s liberation
Sexism is everywhere. From Donald Trump’s attacks on abortion rights and trans rights, to Andrew Tate and the ‘manosphere’ – far right misogynists are on the march. Socialists argue that sexism, like all other forms of oppression, are baked into the capitalist system.
This session is about discussing the roots of sexism and the Marxist strategy to win women’s liberation.

Session #4: How can we build socialist politics today?
What does it mean to be a socialist in Australia today? For Marx and the socialists who came after him, being a socialist meant building the forces of the socialist movement, and organising resistance against the injustices of the system.
This session is about understanding step by step what we need to do today to take us closer to our goal – a socialist society with no poverty, oppression or exploitation.
